We are implementing programs to create a neighborhood that is safer, cleaner and a better place to conduct business. Services listed below are funded by the District property owners.

Clean Team

The Clean Team works to improve the appearance and cleanliness of the District every day from 7am to 7pm. Central Market CBD provides sidewalk sweeping, monitoring of public trash receptacle overflow and trash removal, weeding of tree basins, sidewalk cracks and landscape planters, reporting of bulky items for removal by the Department of Public Works, spot cleaning and graffiti abatement. Steam cleaning takes place quarterly and as needed.

Community Guides

Highly trained “Community Guides” walk the District daily offering assistance in the areas of: way-finding, pedestrian safety and social service outreach. They are easy to spot goodwill ambassadors in bright blue uniforms that ask “How can we help?”. The Guides serve as “eyes and ears” for the community reporting issues affecting neighborhood safety to the appropriate City agencies and service providers. The Community Guides are in radio contact with a central Dispatch office that logs all incoming calls, dispatches services and tracks completion. Six  Community Guides provide services throughout the District 7 days a week, 7am to 7pm.

Public Safety and SFPD 10B Officers

In addition to existing police services, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) assigns officers to community organizations and private parties under City Administrative Code Section 10B. CMCBD contracts with these officers in a proactive approach to public safety, with officers working alongside CMCBD’s Clean Team and Community Guides. Together, they address quality of life issues and the officers may issue citations for things such as: trespassing, illegal vending, open alcohol and/or drug consumption, illegal camping and pedestrian safety infractions.

Central Market CBD keeps an updated list of Retail space available in the District, and offers free commercial real estate services and small business technical assistance for ground floor retail. CMCBD also contributes to annual events and programs that enhance Central Market’s economic vitality.
